Biography

William Apted was a convict after the Third Fleet transported to Tasmania

William Apted was born about 1812 in Surrey, England. William Apted son of Richard Apted and Mary Parker was born in Surrey, England about 1812.

He was convicted for 'Life' for Robbery on the July 31, 1834 along with his Brother Richard. They were transported to Australia on the ship "Waterloo" on Novemebr 18, 1834 to the Colony of Tasmania. [1] [2] [3]

He married Elizabeth Paul a fellow convict on September 11, 1839 in Hobart. [4]

On January 21, 1865 the Ship "Tasmania" sailed from Hobart to Syndey with the "Family Apted" aboard as steerage passengers. [5]

Newspaper Article: The Argus (Melbourne), Tue 27 Mar 1855, Page 8 : Advertising:

"If this should meet the eye of William or Richard Apted, formerly of Reigate, Surrey, England, they will hear of their brother, James, just arrived from home, by leaving their address at the office of this paper." [6]

William died in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on July 12, 1865. [7]

"Deaths: APTED—July 12th, William Apted, late of Hobart Town, Tasmania, aged 53 years, deeply lamented by all who knew him." [8]

"FUNERAL.—The Friends of Mr. JOHN WARD are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral of his late departed Father-in-law, WILLIAM APTED ; to move from his late residence, Castlereagh-street South, THIS AFTERNOON, at 3 o'clock precisely." [9]

Research Notes

Some online trees have different parents for this William, however with the newspaper article from James Apted looking for his brothers; William and Richard plus census and christening records. I do believe that Richard Apted and Mary Parker are his parents. Hill-41179 03:00, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
