William Henry Apter (1848-1902) was born in Liverpool in 1848.

He was the son of Christopher Apter and Jane Cashen[1]
who lived on Salisbury Street, Everton in the 1851 census.

They subsequently moved to Woodside Street in Edge Hill where they stayed for over a decade. In the 1861 census William was working as an errand boy

and in the 1871 census he was working as a coppersmith's helper.

He married (for the 1st time) in 1873 to Elizabeth Gornall. The banns were read

and they married on the 19th October 1873 at St Mary's Church in West Derby, Liverpool.

At that time he was employed as a painter.

They did not appear to have any children and after 5 years of marriage, Elizabeth died in Kirkdale, Liverpool in 1878.
His second marriage was to Mary Whitfield in early 1881. They married on the 13th February 1881 at Christ Church in the Kensington area of Liverpool.

In the register he described himself as a widowed timekeeper from St Oswald Street in Old Swan

but 2 months later when the 1881 census was taken they were living with her parents in Celia Street, Kirkdale.

It was there in December that their first child was born.

Sometime before 1888 they moved to Towson Street in Everton

and in the 1891 census, William had changed jobs and was now working as an insurance agent.

They remained on Towson Street for some years.

His wife, Mary, died in 1898 and the following year he married for a third time. His bride was Janet Brookes and they married in West Derby district.

William & Janet did not appear to have any children and in the 1901 census, still on Towson Street, William was still employed as an insurance agent.

He died at the address on the 8th January 1902.

and he was buried in Anfield Cemetery on the 12th January 1902.
