Biography
Amy was the daughter of Joseph Haigh and Jane Archbele (nee Hiscock). She was born in Spitzkop, Natal and baptised on 16 October 1863 in the parish of St Peter, Pietermaritzburg, Natal.
On 13 October 1923 Amy (aged 50) was recorded as a passenger aboard the "Empress of Russia", along with her daughter, Gladys, (aged 32), sailing from Shanghai, China to the USA. The are listed as English speaking South Africans, they list their nearest relative as Mr R Niven of Johannesburg. He is Amy's brother in law and Gladys' uncle. It seems their immediate destination was Seattle, Washington State, USA. Their ultimate destination being stated as England.
