She was the daughter of Adolph Arel, farmer, and Julie Parenteau, Sponsors at Marie's baptism were Louis Arel and Mathilde Fourquin; neither the sponsors nor the father signed the register.
At age 17 Marie married André Duhamel, a farmer, on 17 Jan 1882 in Saint-Michel parish in Yamaska. There were 12 known children born into this marriage.
