WEDDING BELLS.
O'CALLAGHAN - ARMSTRONG.
A pretty wedding of local interest was celebrated at St. George's Church Thames, on Wednesday, when Miss Eunice O'Callaghan, elder daughter of the Rev. Dr. O'Callaghan, was married to Mr. Charles Armstrong, solicitor of Hamilton. The ceremony was performed by the father of the bride, and she was given away by Dr. D. B. Walshe. The bride looked dainty and charming in ivory charmeuse with veil and orange blossom. She was attended by her sister, Miss Esther O'Callaghan who was gowned in cream cloth and ninon, with a becoming hat of bronze colouring. Mr. Armstrong was attended by Mr. A. R. Brown, of Hamilton. The wedding party consisted of immediate relatives only, on account of the bridegroom's three brothers being at the front. The bride travelled in a brown cloth costume, hat en suite and yellow fox furs. (Ohinemuri Gazette, Issue 3639, 30 June 1916)
Charles was called up for service during World War One in 1917, but while he entered camp for training in May 1918, he did not proceed overseas.
He died in 1963 at the age of 79 at Palmerston North Hospital. He was cremated at Kelvin Grove Cemetery & Crematorium.
