Charles Attygalle is a Military Veteran. Served in the Australian Army 1915-1918 during World War One. Served in France with the 11th Reinforcement, 7th Battalion.
Private Charles Attygalle was wounded in action during World War I.
8 July 1915, Charles enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces with his parents permission. He was assigned to the 11th Reinforcement, 7th Battalion and attained the rank of Private. He saw action in France and was wounded in the arm on 1 July 1916 and eventually returned to Australia in July 1919[2]
Charles died in a motor cycle accident on 10 December 1919 in Ironbark, Victoria[3] and was buried at the Bendigo Public Cemetery, Bendigo[4].
BENDIGO.— The remains of Charles Attygalle, the victim of a motor cycle accident at Ironbark, were buried with military honors in Bendigo Cemetery on Wednesday.
At the inquest held earlier in the day a witness stated that at the time of the accident deceased was travelling at a speed of fully 50 miles per hour. A verdict of accidental death was recorded. Mr. Curnow, J.P., commented on the excessive speed at which many motor cyclists travelled, and expressed the hope that this unfortunate occurrence would lead motor cyclists to exercise more discretion.
