Letitia was born in Culpeper VA in 1745 or 1750 (some sources say 1760). She married Major John (Arthur Hancock) Lee in 1773. Their son, Willis Atwell Lee was born March 29, 1775, the same day Letitia died in childbirth. April 2, 1775 John Lee gave the infant Willis Atwell to his Uncle, Hancock Lee III to raise, then went to join the Culpeper Militia. Later he joined the VA Continental Army, spent the winter in Valley Forge with George Washington, and after the War married Elizabeth Bell. Willis Atwell Lee followed his foster father and Uncle to Kentucky where the family founded Leesburg. Hancock III gave Willis an acre of land (now in Frankfort KY), on which he built Glen Willis house and helped found the distillery which now makes Buffalo Trace Bourbon. Willis was an attorney and clerk of the court for Judge Thomas Todd, whom President Jefferson later appointed to the US Supreme Court. He married Mary McAfee. I can send you documentation if you wish.
