Biography

Elizabeth Ayliffe was recorded in the Visitation of Wiltshire in 1623 as a daughter of Sir George Ayliffe and Anne St John.[1][2]

Elizabeth was recorded in the Duke pedigree in the Visitation of Wiltshire as Elizabeth Ayliffe, daughter of Sir George Ayliffe. She had married George Duke, son and heir of John and Mary Duke of Lake [Wilsford cum Lake], Wiltshire.[3]

The marriage settlement of Elizabeth Ayliffe and George Duke was dated 'about 20 Aug 1636'.[4]

Elizabeth was noted as Elizabeth Duke in the will of her father Sir George Ayliffe of Rabson, WIltshire, the will made on 22 May 1640 and proved on 30 Mar 1647.[5]

The children of Elizabeth and George were:[4][6]

  • John Duke (unmarried, died 1657)
  • George Duke (1638-1638)
  • Anne Duke (born 1641, married Richard Phelps)
  • Elizabeth Duke (born 1642)
  • George Duke (1644-1690)

Her husband George Duke esqr of Salterton and eldest son of John Duke of Lake esqr died on 13 Oct 1655.[7][8]

Elizabeth Jay, wife of Hampton Jay, gent, the daughter of Sir George Ayliffe and formerly the widow of George Duke of Salterton esq, died on 05 Apr 1698 and was buried at Wilsford cum Lake, Wiltshire.[7][8]
