Author: John House's account of walking in Ripley Cemetery in 1909: "William G. Ayers came from Pocahontas County to Ripley. He died March 23, 1848, aged forty-seven years nine months. Phebe J. Ayers, his wife, died January 18, 1850 aged twenty-five years eleven months. John Ayres, son of W.G. died in 1857, aged twenty-four. Twin daughters of W.G. and J. Ayers died 1848, infants. "Grig" Ayers, father of Will was probably son of W.G. Ayers." [1]
Author: John House: "There was another family of Ayres, who lived near Ripley, William G. Ayres, and his wife, Phebe. They came from Pocahontas County, and are buried in the Old Ripley graveyard, side by side.
He was born in 1800, and she twenty four years later, so may be a second wife. He had a son, John, buried by them, who died in 1857, aged twenty four years.
The Harpers were in some way connected with them."[2]
