Biography

When Elias Tyler Ayres was born on 8 October 1870, in Marion, South Carolina, United States, his father, Enoch Shaw Ayres, was 35 and his mother, Samantha Mantha Tyler, was 24. He married Katherine Lendra McArthur on 31 December 1901, in Robeson, North Carolina, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 6 daughters. He lived in Hillsboro Township, Dillon, South Carolina, United States in 1940 and Dillon, Dillon, South Carolina, United States in 1950. He died on 20 August 1953, in Lumberton, Robeson, North Carolina, United States, at the age of 82, and was buried in Ayers, Marlboro, South Carolina, United States.

Elias Tyler Ayres was the third of nine children born to Enoch Shaw Ayres and his wife Samantha Tyler of Marion County, South Carolina. He was named for his maternal grandfather Elias Tyler of Horry County, a Confederate soldier who died in the War.

Elias married Katherine McArthur (1873-1965) on 31 Dec. 1901.
