Biography

Benjamin Bacon was born on May 11, 1795 in Sunderland, Bennington County, Vermont, United States, son of Benjamin Bacon and Lois Evarts.[1]

He married Elizabeth Sloan Brevard on 22 March 1821 in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. They had children.

  1. Alvin Galusha Bacon was born in 1822 in Missouri.
  2. Robert H Bacon was born 1825 in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri.
  3. Nancy Lemira Bacon was born about 1829; died in 1847.[2]
  4. Lois Eliza Bacon was born 1830 in Missouri.[3]
  5. Benjamin Franklin Bacon was born 1832 in Missouri.
  6. Margaret Cecilia Bacon was born 1834 in Illinois.
  7. Hiram Melville Bacon was born 1836 in Illinois.[4]
  8. William H Bacon was born 1838 in Illinois.
  9. Mary Ellen Bacon was born 1841 in Illinois.[5]

Benjamin came to "Oliver's Prairie" in about 1835. It is said that he and two other men laid out the townsite of Pulaski, Hancock County, Illinois in 1836.

A store ledger kept by Rev. Benjamin Bacon in Pulaski, covering 1837 to 1838, has been preserved.

Benjamin died on 24 July 1860 in Pulaski, Hancock County, Illinois. He is buried in the Pulaski Cemetery.[6][7]
