Obituary

Passed peacefully away at Hoyles Escasoni Complex, St. John's on Monday, May 22, 2000, Miriam Gladys (Dean) Whalen (nee Baggs), aged 97 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are daughters Doris (Ron Sharpe), St. John's and Bernice (Harvey Drover), Hodge's Cove; sons George Baxter Dean (Edna), Stephenville and Frank Dean (Ada), North Harbour; step-sons Bill Whalen, Hedley Whalen (Emma) and Stan Whalen (Woodrow), all of Caplin Cove; step-daughters Irene (Roy Critch), Hillview, Ethel (Bill Jacobs), Little Heart's Ease and Marcie (George Hillier), St. Jones Within; 38 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at St. Matthew's Anglican Church, North Harbour. Funeral held on Thursday, May 25, 2000, from St. Matthew's Anglican Church, North Harbour. Interment at Anglican Cemetery, North Harbour.

She was born on sept 9 (I think) 1902 and was from Adams Cove. She moved to North Harbour, Placentia Bay, NL as a teenager in service for Louise Eddy (nee Janes). She married Wilson Dean and had 2 sons and 2 daughters. She moved to Caplin Cove after marrying Ebenezer Whalen . Her parents were Richard Knight Baggs and Maria (nee Gill).
