Ira Bailey was born in 1792, the son of Thomas Bailey and Desire Hubbard.[1][2] When Ira was still a small child (3-4 years old) his family moved to Rochester, VT, where Ira would spend a large part of his life. While his birth is recorded in Rochester, VT, not Westminster, it is evident that the Rochester records were done after the event.
On 20 Aug. 1818, Ira married Roxana Goodenow, at Rochester, VT. Roxana was born 2 July 1797 at Westminster, VT, the daughter of Caleb Goodenow (1771-1818) and Mary (Shipman) Goodenow (c.1772-1857).
This family was recorded in Rochester, VT on the 1820,[3] 1830[4] and 1840[5] censuses. Then they were recorded in Granville, VT on the 1850[6] and 1860[7] censuses. By examining these censuses, it appears they had three sons and two daughters:
Ira passed away of consumption in 1866, at the age of 73.[8]
