Elizabeth Odell Baillie was born on 9 Oct 1833 in Southall, Middlesex, England to parents Thomas Baillie and Elizabeth Odell. Her date of birth is recorded on her gravestone. She was baptised on 29 Nov 1833 in St Mary the Virgin, Norwood Green, Ealing, England.[1]
Elizabeth's father was the Commissioner of crown lands and surveyor general of New Brunswick, Canada.[2]
In 1851 she was age 17 and living with her parents, two siblings and two servants in York, New Brunswick, Canada.[3][4]
She married Col. Eardley Maitland in 1855 in Lewisham, London, England. The marriage was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1855 in the Lewisham district.[5]

In 1856 they were living on the island of Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, in South Asia when their daughter Laura was born.[10]
In 1860 they were living in York, New Brunswick, Canada when their son Edward William died aged 2 months.[11]
In 1861 they were living in India when their oldest child Laura died at age 5.[12]
In 1871 Elizabeth was age 37 and living with her husband, Eardley Maitland, two daughters and two servants in Plumstead, Kent, England. Her husband was a Captain in the Royal Artillery.[13][14]
Elizabeth died at age 43 in Brighton, Sussex, England on 6 Aug 1877. Her date of death is recorded on her gravestone. Her death was registered in the Sep quarter of 1877 in the Brighton district.[15]
She was buried in the Woodvale Cemetery in Brighton, Sussex, England.[16]
