DEATH OF JAMES EDWARD BAKER
James Edward Baker, one of Dutchess County's oldest residents, quietly
passed away at his home at Crum Elbow, Tuesday, April 28th, at the age of 82
years, 11 months and 22 days. He had been in ill health nearly all winter, and
his death was caused by old age.
The funeral services were held from the Quaker church, at Crum Elbow, on
May 2nd. Rev. Immins officiated, and hymns were rendered by Myrtle Cove,
of this city. At the request of the deceased, the bearers were his four sons,
Hezekiah Baker, Clarence Baker, John Baker and Adelbert Baker. Many floral
tributes were offered.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife and eleven children, seven daughters and
four sons, the eldest of whom is sixty-three years of age, and the youngest,
forty-one. Mr. Baker spent his entire life within five miles of his late home.
He was a honest and upright man and was widely known. He will be much
missed by his many friends.
Dearest father,thou hast left us.
How we miss thee, one and all!
But we hope in heaven to meet thee,
When all earthly toils are o'er.
Restthy body in the church yard:
But thy soul to heaven hast flown.
Thou art resting with the angels,
Far above thine earthly home.
When the last trump resounds,
On the great and Judgment day;
When the righteous are called above,
Andassigned a place on high;
United then in peace we'll dwell
When the earth has passed away.
C. Baker
