Obituary

JACK J. BALDWIN
February 28, 1918 ~ January 19, 2013

Jack J. Baldwin, 94, died peacefully, after a brief illness, on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at his residence in Vancouver, Washington. He was born on February 28, 1918 in Woodburn, Oregon, the youngest of three sons of Jack and Bertha (Crumpacker) Baldwin.

After graduating from high school, Jack spent over three years at Oregon State College in Oregon. He was exempted from military service in World War II because they could not provide a uniform for this exceptionally tall man!

Jack married June S. Semmler of Portland, Oregon in 1941. The couple did everything together for more than 71 years! They designed and built their home in the Hazel Dell, Washington area, where they lived for most of their life together.

Jack was employed for over thirty years as a supervisor at Alcoa's Vancouver, Washington plant. He was a member of Vancouver BPOE Elks Lodge #823 in Vancouver, Washington.

In retirement, Jack enjoyed outdoor activities, such as gardening, golf, fishing and camping, and bird hunting with one of his three beloved German Shorthair dogs at his side. Viewing sporting events was a primary interest, especially baseball. The Baldwins were charter members of the Green Meadows Golf & Country Club in Vancouver, Washington. They traveled a lot, took several ocean cruises, and enjoyed participating in the Fisher group, seniors who take trips together throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Jack is survived by his widow, June; cousins, Rich and Connie Meyer and family of Seattle, Washington and Boston, Massachusetts; and nephew, Bill and Kathy Semmler and family of Spokane, Washington, Montana and Alaska.

A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Washington.

Memorial gifts may be made to your favorite charity.[1]
