Cyrus was born in 1852. He was the son of Cyrus Baldwin and Mary Fairchild. He was married to Ella Viola Billings, and they had one daughter. He was an American minister, academic, and pioneer of hydroelectric power. He was the first official present of Pomona College, and founded the San Antonio Light and Power Company. He passed away in 1931. After leaving higher education, Baldwin continued his efforts with the San Antonio Light and Power Company, seeking to build another power station and irrigation project at Mill Creek in San Bernardino County. However, the venture failed due to a combination of lack of funding, drought, and water right disputes. He moved to Pal Alto in 1902 to 1910. He died of a stroke on January 10, 1931.
