from obituary: Gladys (Somerville) Wallis, 79, of Kingston died Monday, April 30, 2001, at her daughter's home in Freeland. Mrs. Wallis lived in Kingston and was previously from the Decker area. She was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Bad Axe, daughter to the late John and Maude (McIllmurry) Ballagh. She married John J. Somerville April 14, 1945, in Juhl. He passed away April 24, 1980, and she remarried Harold Wallis July 25, 1987, in Caro. He preceded her in death July 1, 1993. She worked as a housekeeper at Tender Care in Cass City and she also farmed. Mrs. Wallis was a member of the Kingston United Methodist Church and former member of the Decker Extension Group. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and most of all, she enjoyed her family. She is survived by two sons, Gary Somerville and his wife, Catherine, of Kingston and James Somerville of Decker; two daughters, Roxy Sova and her husband, Tom, of Freeland, Maryann Ellery and her husband, Michael, of Harrison; brother, Lorene Ballagh of Pigeon; sister Eva Blaylock of Bad Axe, sister-in-law Mildred Ballagh of Three Rivers; four grandchildren, John Somerville and his wife, Theresa, of Unionville, Julie Ruggles and her husband, Tim, of Kingston, Joe Somerville and his wife, Kristy, of Gaylord, Jermery Somerville of Kingston; two step-grandchildren, Bill Sova and his wife, Patty, of Freeland, and Lori Finney and her husband, Ed, of Freeland; seven great-grandchildren and four step-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers Bill, Ralph and Russell Ballagh; sisters Marquerite Thompson and Edith Ballagh. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, May 3, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with the Rev. Margaret Passenger, pastor of the Kingston United Methodist Church, officiating. Acting Casket Bearers are John, Joe and Jeremy Somerville, Tim Ruggles, Dennis King and Duane Thompson. Honorary Casket Bearers are Guy Somerville, Justin Ruggles, Graham Sova and Seth Sova. Interment will be in the Marlette Cemetery. Visitation will be conducted from 1 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette. Memorials may be given to the Kingston United Methodist Church, Lupus Foundation or the Hospice of Saginaw.
