Obituary

Albert L. Banik, age 82, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, August 29, 2015 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.

A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, follow by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Albert was born November 15, 1932 in West, the son of Ernest and Fena (Schronk) Banik. He attended the old Gerald School, West High School and TSTC. Albert served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War as a member of the 1st Armed Infantry Division. On November 5, 1955 he was united in marriage to Rosemary Rauschuber in Tours. Rosemary preceded him in death on December 9, 2002. Albert worked for General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco for over 32 years, before retiring in 1987. He then worked for Chief Auto Parts and Hillcrest Hospital, both in Waco. Albert was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was very active in SPJST Lodge #35 in Elk, where he served as Secretary over 20 years, hall manager for 10 years and President of District III. He was also a member of American Legion Post #478 in West. Albert enjoyed polka music, country and western music, dancing and gardening. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Albert is also preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Ashley Banik; three brothers, Robert Banik, Otto Banik and Ernest Banik; and four sisters, Erna Archerd, Bertha Schultz, Ellen Richter and Olga Richter.

Survivors include three daughters, Cyndy Dunlap and husband Joe of Mt. Calm, Denise McCauley and husband Mike of Elm Mott and Charlotte Carlisle of Dallas; two sons, Eddie Banik and wife Marilyn of China Spring and Darrin Banik and wife Torie of West; grandchildren, Cody McCauley, Casie McCauley, Whitney Ward and husband Jeff, Derek Banik and wife Sarah, Taylor Dunlap, Bailey Rose Carlisle, Grace Banik and William Banik; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Cody McCauley, Derek Banik, Taylor Dunlap, William Banik, Mike McCauley, Joe Dunlap and John Schroeder.
