Biography

Eli Barbee was born on 26 Sep 1822 in Franklin County, Ohio, the son of Hawes Barbee and Mary Amelia Jones. ^{[citation needed]}

He married Rebecca Marsh on 1 Jan 1846 in Franklin County, Ohio. ^[1]

In 1850 he and Rebecca were living in Jackson Township, Franklin, Ohio with their two young daughters and 19 year old Eli Spangler. ^[2] Eli Spangler was Eli Barbee's late sister Mary (Barbee) Spangler's son. They apparently were listed a 2nd time in the census in Jackson Township, Franklin, Ohio. In the 2nd ennumeration Eli Spangler was not listed with the family, but 1 year old John was. The ages of the family members were slightly different, but otherwise they appear to be the same family. ^[3] Maybe they moved around the time the census was taken.

In 1860 he and Rebecca were living in Jackson Township, Franklin, Ohio with seven children between the ages of 0-13. ^[4]

In 1870, he and Rebecca were living in Kelly Township, Cooper, Missouri with six of their children, aged 10-23. ^[5]

In 1880 they were in Union Township, Benton, Indiana, living with four of their children, aged 20-26. ^[6]

He died on 3 Jan 1888, at the age of 65 years, and was buried at Fowler Cemetery in Fowler, Benton, Indiana. ^[7]
