William Bateman was born in England.

William Bateman of the parish and town of Manchester, gentleman, married Mary Swire of Ashton by license on 10 October 1799 in Manchester, St Mary, St Denys and St George. The witnesses were Elizabeth Meise[?], Will Johnson Edensor.and Abram Luyd.[1]

Their children included:

  1. John Bateman” son of William Bateman, cotton dealer, and his wife Mary, was buried on 31 August 1800 in Manchester, St John, Lancashire, England. He died from weakness at just 10 days old.[2]
  2. Henry Bateman was born on 5 October 1801 and baptised on 7 December 1801 in the Independent Chapel, Cavendish Street, Chorlton-upon-Medlock, Lancashire, England, the son of William Bateman, merchant, and his wife Mary.[3]
  3. Samuel Bateman, child of William Bateman, cotton merchant, & his wife Mary, was born on 4 October 1810 and baptised on 5 February 1811 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.[4]
