Sophia Mary Bax was born in Ripple, Kent England on February 27th 1820, the daughter of William Bax and Maria Iliff. She was baptized in February 1820, Parish of Sutton by Dover, Kent England.
At the time of the England and Wales Census, 1841, Sophia was living at Great Mongeham, Kent, England, United Kingdom.[1]
She married Richard William Hogben on the 5th September 1841 in Sutton by Dover, Kent, England, United Kingdom,[2] and had four children before leaving Deptford London on the vessel Ascendant on August 18th 1849.
Arrived Port Adelaide on Nov 21st 1849 with her husband and first four children. Spent 10 years residing in South Australia then they took up land at Muskerry via Bendigo in Victoria. Some 160 acres at 1/- per acre.
She passed away in 1890 in the Colony of Victoria, aged 69.[3]
