Biography

Harry was born 10 February 1787. He is the son of William Baxter and Deborah Buell.


Memorial of the Baxter Family [1]

104. WILLIAM BAXTER was b. in the parish of Andover, Coventry, Tolland County, Conn. He enlisted in the company of Capt. Joseph Hatch, of Norwich, Vermont, attached to Major Hasilton's company of Rangers, August, 1776, and served fifteen months. He enlisted again in 1778, and served two months in a Connecticut regiment, commanded by Major Elias Buell. He was at the battles of the Cowpens and Hubbardan. He was married in May, 1786, to Deborah Buell, daughter of Peter Buell, of Coventry, Tolland County, Conn., by a Justice of the Peace, named Burnapp. She was b. in Tolland County, April 10, 1766.

2. Fanny. b. Feb. 1789 : m. Bradford Andrews : d. at Glover, Vt., about 1854.
3. Laura, b. m. Daniel Fish, in 1819. Mr. Fish was the son of David and Abigail Fish, and was b. in Adams, Mass. Aug. 18, 1790. He was a farmer, and lived in Danby, Ill. He d. Nov. 21, 1872, and his wife died Dec. 27, 1840. Issue: Harriet, b. April 27, 1820, m. Gilbert Way, April, 1840, and has issue : Edmond, Laura, Elsmore, and Eva. Laura. b. Oct. 20, 1825; d. Feb. 4, 1845. Alimira, b. Nov. 22, 1827; m. Jesse M. Brown, 1846, and had issue: Darwin and Harriet. Mrs. Brown d. Oct. 10, 1855. George, b. July 1, 1829; m. Hattie Bell, in 1845, and has issue: Clara, Ida, and Frank. John, b. April 28, 1831; m. Ann Sandercox, 1855, and has issue : Eddie and Arthur.
4. Harriet, m. William Warren House, in 1818... His mother was a sister of Gen. Warren. Issue: William Henry Baxter, b. May 2, 1820. He m. (1) Rachel Armanda Fuller, March 4, 1844; b. in Ohio, in 1826. Issue: Mary Harriet, b. Dec. 7, 1845; m. Frank Jay, of Louisville, Ky., and d. Feb. 15, 1874, leaving two children. Abner Alonzo, b. Sept. 7, 1847. Mrs. Rachel A. House d. Oct. 23, 1850. W. H. B. House m. (2) Louisa J. Johnson, April 5, 1851, who was born in 1825. Issue : Martha Elizabeth, b. Jan. 12, 1853; Rachel Armanda, b. May 30, 1854; m. Edward O. Levely, April 18, 1876, and had Elizabeth, b. Oct. 11, 1877 ; Abigail Isora, b. Oct. 4, 1855; Hester Ellen, b. Jan. 18, 1856; Salina Louisa, b. Oct. 2, 1857; Thomas Henry, b. Jan. 11, 1858; Caroline Alimira, b. Aug. 26, 1860 ; d. Dec. 10, 1876 ; Hester Ellen d. March 24, 1870. Harriet (Baxter) House d. May 9, 1820. Her husband, William Warren House, m. (2) Hester Applegate, of Wilmington, Clinton County, Ohio, by whom he had a son, Samuel. Mr. House d. Aug. 23, 1822.
5. Caroline, b. m. her cousin, James Baxter, sixth son of Elihu and Triphena (Taylor) Baxter, of Norwich, Vt. Issue : Harriet Angelia, b. Oct. 4, 1821 ; m. William B. Palmer, and had issue: Hattie A., b. March 5, 1845; d. Dec. 30, 185x . Mrs. Palmer d. April 18, 1845. Henry, b. July 3, 1823; d. Aug. 3, 1823; George W., b. July 1, 1824; d.
