Biography

James Bean was born in Jonesboro, Maine a son of Abner Bean and Elsie Watts. James' father was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War. Jame married, in Mahcias, Maine, Rebecca Harmon, daughter of Benjamin Harmon and Sarah (Hill) Harmon. Rebecca's father was also a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, and both fathers served with Captain Stephen Smith, under the command of Colonel Benjamin Foster.

James and Rebecca were the parents of seven children: Louisa Bean, married name Priesh; Benjamin Bean; James Bean; Leroy Bean; Nancy Bean; Lucy Bean and Henry Bean.
