Biography

William was born in 1744. He was the son of Richard Beckford. He passed away in 1799.

"William Beckford the son of Richard Beckford Esq. was born the 13th September in the year of our Lord 1744 at eight of the clock ? evening and was baptized the 15th October following by the Revd. Mr. William May." - Extract taken from the family bible of Richard Beckford Esq. by the Rev. John Venn on Dec 14, 1753.

"At half an hour after seven at night I delivered Elizabeth Hay of a boy by Mr. Richard Beckford baptized William." - Extract taken from the book kept by the midwife, Mrs. Ann Hayfield, on Dec 14, 1753.

He was the illegitimate son of Richard Beckford & Elizabeth Hay, sister of Thomas Hay, Secretary and Public Notary in Jamaica.

He married his first cousin, Charlotte Hay.
