Biography

Elizabeth Beckham (married name Gwin) was born on 7 September 1835 in Mattishall Burgh, Norfolk, England, the daughter of Mary Ann (Sheldrake) Beckham and Henry Beckham.^{[citation needed]}

Her father, Henry Beckham, was charged with sheep stealing on 1 Jul 1843 at North Tuddenham, Norfolk. He arrived in Australia aboard the ship "Sir George Seymour" at Point Henry on 22 March 1845, Geelong, one of 176 exiles, including his brother Francis BECKHAM after having been convicted together. These exiles were from the Pentonville Probationary Prison. Francis and Henry BECKHAM, brothers arrived at Geelong in 1845 and went to work as shepherds for Henry GIBB, a squatter in the Lake Bolac/Mortlake area. They took up land at Murgheboluc, near Geelong, where their wives and families joined them from Norfolk, England, in 1849, arriving on the Panama. ^[1]
