OBITUARY-LONG ISLAND. Jacob R. Bedell. Freeport, L. I., September 3 Jacob R. Bedell, the oldest native resident of this place, died on Tuesday evening of old age at the home of Henry R. Bedell, on Bay View-avenue, where he had resided for the past ten years. He was 85 years old, having been born August 5, 1818, In an old house on the property where the Millburn station of the Brooklyn Water Works Is now situated.
This property was owned by his father, Jacob Bedell. When only a young man the deceased was married to Miss Phebe Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob ' Smith of Baldwin, who died a number of years ago. Mr. Bedell was a member of the Freeport Methodist Episcopal Church for over sixty years, a fanner by occupation nnd a stanu Republican in politics. About four weeks' ago he was taken sick nnd since then lie has gradually failed. He is survived by one son, Alanson S. Bedell of New Y'ork City. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon, at the Bay View avenue residence and 2:30 o'clock at the Free-port M. E. Church, Rev.
