The BEER FAMILY Tree
Original material--By Craig Beer
"The present ancestral roots of the BEER Line date back to 1812 in St. Clair County, Illinois.
It is documented through Land Transfers and Census records that we are Descendants of
WILLIAM and SARAH BEER
On 24 August 1814, William Beer was listed in the preemption report as "did improve and cultivate on the said half section prior to 5th February 1813 and continues residence thereon ever since."
The legal description is given SE1/4, SW1/4, Sec 8, T1N,R8W."
Record was Last Changed: 26 August 2013
(PLEASE NOTE: Country of Origin for WILLIAM BEER & SARAH BIRD is referenced but almost 'in passing' and was viewed in another Posted work - also by the same Descendant: CRAIG BEER. That content will be here shared as well. HOWEVER in an equally compelling material some of Craig Beer's conclusions must be challenged)
The Beer Family Tree by Craig Beer
"According to his obituary, Jeff farmed until 1866 when he purchased a hostelry in Keosaqua. Sources say Jeff was a lover of horses and was involved in racing competitions at the county fair. Lucille Hookom remembers family stories about Jeff's daughters, who not only rode horses at the county fair, but also raced them. The comment was that this activity "raised some eyebrows." Assuming the girls would have been teenagers, the years around 1870-74 were when women usually had a more conservative role!"
Obit: Thomas Jefferson Beer
The funeral of the late Thomas Jefferson Beer was held from the late residence Friday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. T.S. O'Adams, the singing being by the Congregational church choir.
There was good attendance, the community thus testifying its sympathy with the bereaved family and friends and its respect for the dead.
Mr. Beer's parents were North Carolinians, going from that state to Tennessee and thence to Bellville, Illinois, and from there to Keosauqua, arriving here May 10, 1837, at which time the deceased was 12 years of age. Mr. Beer owned and lived on a farm about three miles south of here, which in 1886 he exchanged for the Sheperd house at this place, changing the name of that hostelry to the Jefferson house.
Mr. Beer was a great lover of horses, and will be remembered as a prominent figure in the speed ring of our county fair for many years.
In compliance with his request, his favorite team was used in conveying the hearse to the cemetery. Mr. Beer was one of our oldest settlers, and with his passing away a kind and hearted man, an active man, one interested in the advancement and progress of the community, disappears from among us." (NOTE HERE: there is every reason to hold this content authentic and accurate. Given that, there are two, maybe three issues that must be stated conflicted and with a satisfactory resolution will invalidate a large swath of the present accepted material of the Beers Family Tree...or there were two Family Groups living parallel lives.)
There are Three primary questions that must find resolution in the text:
  1. Where was WILLIAM BEER and SARAH BIRD born? Was it North Carolina, or Britain?
  2. What were the names of their children, and where were said children born. And the question probably carries with it more significance then Question 1.
  3. While some questions will undoubtedly remain unanswered, one question cannot be resolved in any other manner - than totally and complete. And that is: Where and when did the Beer and Badgley Family's share enough of their timelines to facilitate two Family intermarriages:
  • THOMAS BEER & ELIZABETH BADGLEY
    NANCY BADGLEY & JOHN BEER
