Biography

Ruth was born in 1942. She was the daughter of Grenville Bell and Nora Clement. She was married twice. Her first husband was William Edward Gibbons. They had one daughter, Jennifer Leslie Gibbons.

BUCKSPORT - The daughter of Grenville and Nora (Clement) Bell, Ruth lived in Bucksport, for 76 years. She never left the town for more than two weeks until she went to live with her daughter Jennifer Gibbons in West Linn, OR. She died on July 13, 2021, from complications relating to Alzheimer's.

Ruth was a realtor in Bucksport for many years and owned Captain Jack's Pub. But her heart was in her art, not her jobs. An award-winning painter, she sold works in Maine and Boston. She spent her last years in Bucksport, in a log cabin out by Silver Lake, surrounded by peace and the crows, ravens, and foxes she adored. Ruth is survived by her brother, Pastor Thomas Bell and his wife, Carol Lee; by her daughter, Jennifer Gibbons and son-in-law, Ryerson Schwark; and by her nieces and nephews: Holly (Harvey) Pelletier and her husband, Randy; Heather Harvey-Hassapelis and her husband, Jay; Dane Harvey and his wife, Jessica (Bridges); Hayley (Harvey) Smith and her husband, Jim; Brendan Harvey and his wife, Tiffany (Bass); Brian Bell and his wife, Jody (Boyer); and Nathan Bell and his husband, Jim Bentley. Ruth was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, William Gibbons; her sister, Bonnie Harvey; and her nephew Tom Harvey.

A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home on August 14, at 1 p.m. Flowers can be sent there.
