Douglas was born in 1941. He was the son of William Betts. He was Mr. Florida in 1966 and passed away in 2005.
Douglas W. Betts, 63, of Bradenton, passed away March 6, 2005. He was a retired Deputy Sheriff for the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, a trainer with the Sheriff's Office, a weightlifter, bodybuilder, and a member of Masonic F & AM, Lodge No. 31 and the Egypt Temple Shrine. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Tampa. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Bradenton; son, Jonathan Douglas, of North Port, Fla.; daughter, Lori Lynn, of Bradenton; five brothers, Drexel, of St. Petersburg, and Dean, David, Phillip and Charles, all of Tampa; sister, Donna Jean, of Loganville, Ga.; and five grandchildren.[1]
