Biography

Jane was born and baptised in 1841^[1] in Howden, Yorkshire, England. She was the daughter of William Beverley and Mary Ann Mannaker.^[2] In 1851 and 1861 Jane lived in Howden with her mother and siblings.^[3] Jane worked as a "field hand."^[4]

In 1864 she married John Norwood.^[5] By 1881 the family lived in Howden, Yorkshire, where John worked as a general labourer.^[6]

At the time of the 1891 census Jane lived in Everton, Lancashire, with her sons George and Tom. She said that she was a widow.^[7] In 1901 she ran a boarding-house in Hunslet, Yorkshire.^[8] By 1911 she was "past work."^[9]

Jane died in 1924 at the age of 83.^[10]
