Biography

Fanny Bieckert was born on November 16th, 1842, in Barr. She was the daughter of Jean Bieckert and Madeleine Luginsland.[1] She grew up on the Quai du Saule with her family.

On June 25th, 1867, she embarked on the ship La Navarre in Bordeaux, with Buenos Aires for destination.[2] In Buenos Aires, she very likely stayed with her elder brother Émile who lived there.

At some point before the summer of 1869, she sailed back to France and got back to Barr. There, she married Michel Roth, a brewmaster native of Pfulgriesheim, on August 12th, 1869.[3]

Two months later, on October 24th, the young couple and Fanny's stepmother and half-siblings embarked for Buenos Aires in Bordeaux on the ship La Gironde.[4] The family established itself in Buenos Aires, where Fanny's siblings Émile and Marie-Madeleine already lived.

After the annexation of Alsace-Lorrain by Germany in 1871, Fanny decided to stay a French citizen, and made a declaration in that sense at the French consulate in Buenos Aires on December 30th, 1872.[5]

The Roth couple had two daughters in Argentina :

  • Fanny Roth (1874-1940)
  • Mathilde Roth (1878-1958)

The Roth were likely involved in the Bieckert brewing company.

In 1888, now rich, they moved back to France to the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Fanny's siblings Émile and Marie-Madeleine moved back at the same time.

In the 1890s, the Roth lived 68 avenue Henri-Martin. They later lived at the 2, rue Dufrénoy. Michel Roth died there in 1908, and Fanny still lived there at her death.

Fanny Bieckert died on August 21st, 1921, in Saint-Pierre-de-l'ïle[6]. She is burried in Montmartre cemetery with her husband and siblings.
