Biography

Jacob H Biehl was born on 17 Apr 1850 in Berkenfeld, Oldenburg, Germany[1] to German-born parents, Philip Carl Biehl (1819-1912) (aka Charles Biehl)[2] and Henrietta (Seibert) Biehl (abt.1813-1887).[3]

He arrived in the USA about 1844.[4] There is a discrepancy as to the year he immigrated. His father's obituary indicated that the family of Philip Carl Biehl immigrated in 1854 and settled at Albany, NY where the parents resided for 23 years, prior to coming to Hinckley in 1877.[3]

Jacob and Catherine (Munch) Biehl (1854-1946) married about 1870.[5]

On 1 Jun 1875, Jacob (25) and Catherine (20) and 3 sons - Jacob Biehl (3), Oscar Biehl (2), and Rudolph Biehl (1874-1960) (1) were living in the 12th Ward of Albany, Albany, New York.[6]

In 1880, Jacob (29) and "Kate" (25), their sons (who were now ages 9, 8, and 6), and two additional daughters, Catherine "Katie" Biehl (4) and Lottie Biehl (1) were living in Squaw Grove, DeKalb, Illinois. Jacob was now working as a florist.[7]

In 1900 Jacob (50) and Catherine (46), 5 sons - Oscar (27), Lervy Biehl (19), Mark Biehl (16), Arthur Biehl (1886-1945) (14) and Earl Biehl (3), and 2 daughters - Lottie (21) and Hattie Biehl (11) were living at 2 H Street in Squaw Grove, DeKalb, IL.[5]

On 6 May 1910, Jacob (60) and Catherine (56) and their last born children Hattie Biehl (21) and Earl Biehl (18) were living on Northview Street in Hinkley, DeKalb, Illinois. Jacob was shown as naturalized, married for 23 years, owning their own home. At this point in time, he worked as a carpenter[2].[8]

Jacob died at age 72, on 29 Sep 1922 in Hinckley, DeKalb, Illinois, USA and was buried on 2 Oct 1922 at the Greenwood Cemetery, Hinckley.[1][2]
