Jane was born in 1770 at Chilton Foliat, Wiltshire, England. She was the daughter of Rev. Lovelace Bigg and his second wife Margaret Blachford.[1] Her name was changed to Bigg-Wither in 1789 when her father inherited the Manydown estates from a cousin.
She grew up at Manydown and would have been acquainted with its many visitors, including the future author Jane Austen.
She married solicitor John Awdry in 1795 at Wootton St Lawrence, near Manydown.[2] They initially resided at Notton House at Lacock, Wiltshire, and had 9 children there, but when her husband was ordered to seek a milder climate for his health in 1814 they moved to the South Coast and let Notton House out. Later in life they returned to Wiltshire but lived at South Wraxall.
In 1841 she was recorded living with her son Henry at Melksham. John was elsewhere at that time.[3]
John passed away in 1844.
She passed away in 1846, presumably at Melksham or South Wraxall. She was buried at Melksham.[4]
