Biography

Hilda was born in 1913, probably at Langley, Worcestershire where her parents were living in 1911, the daughter of John Frederick Billington and Harriet Billington formerly Slade. [1]

The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time Hilda was living with her parents and younger brother Frederick at 9 Landswood Road, Oldbury, Worcestershire. Born 25 January 1913, she was aged 26. Hilda was working as a sales ledger clerk for an engineering metal trader. [2]

Hilda Billington married Benjamin E Allen in 1939 at St Michaels and All Angels, Langley. [3]

This couple had two daughters.

Benjamin and Hilda moved to Australia in about 1977.

In the 1980 Victorian electoral roll Benjamin and Hilda were residing at 3/14 Benjamin Dr, Lara. [4]

Benjamin Enoch Allen died on 26 December 1984 at Lara, Victoria aged 69 years of myocardial degeneration, 10 years; coronary arteriosclerosis, 10 years + and severe rheumatoid arthritis, 15 years +. His usual address was 3/14 Benjamin Drive, Lara. Benjamin had been employed as a store proprietor prior to his death. His death certificate further recorded Benjamin was the son of Samuel Allen, a chemical worker, and Lilian [sic] Allen formerly Clift. He had married Hilda Billington in England aged 24 years. At his death Benjamin had two daughters aged 40 and 37 years. Benjamin, born in England, had lived in Australia for 7 years. The informant of his death was his wife H. Allen of 3/14 Benjamin Drive, Lara. Benjamin was cremated on 28 December 1984 at Memorial Park Crematorium, North Altona. [5]
