Biography

John was born about 1795. According to Steve Binns, he was the son of Edmund Binns (b. ABT 1760) and Joice -- (b. ABT 1765).^[1]

Marriage & Issue

He married Joice/Joyce Mountcastle in Charles City on 20 AUG 1827. The Charles City marriage database notes that Joice Binns (the bride) was a widow of Edmd Binns.^[2] An Edmund Binns is found in the 1820 census residing in Charles City, but does not appear in the 1830 census.^[3] Perhaps this was her first husband. The marriage had, as sureties, John Binns and Francis Mountcastle (perhaps her father?).

They had issue;

1. Elizabeth Joice "Joyce" Binns, b. 1832, m. George Washington Colgin.
2. John C Binns, b. ABT 1832, m. Maria Louise Martin.
3. Richardson Binns, b. ABT 1838.
4. Major R. Binns, b. ABT 1839.

Death

He passed away before 1850. He may have been the John Binns listed in Charles City in the 1840 Census^[4], with no mention of him after, his widow possibly being listed as a slave owner in the 1850 Slave Schedule and then listed as a widow living with her children in 1860. Suffice to say, John Binns was passed before 1860, possibly before 1850.
