Lucy Bishop was born in 1811 in Compton Dundon, Somerset, England to William Bishop and Mary (Edwards) Bishop - she was christened on 29 Sep 1811 at St Andrew's in Compton Dundon.[1]
Lucy Bishop married Richard Higdon on 18 May 1835 in Walton, Somerset.[2]
Lucy and Richard had seven children:
In 1841 Lucy Higdon (age 25-29) lived in Walton with her husband Richard (25-29) and two daugters: Ann (4) and Eliza (1).[3]
In 1851 Lucy Higdon (age 38 [~40], Emp At Home) lived at Principal Street in Walton with her husband Richard (37, Thatcher) and five children: Ann (14, At Home), Eliza (12, Scholar), George (10, Scholar), Sophia (8, Scholar), and Richard (3, Scholar).[4]
In 1861 Lucy Higdon (age 50) lived at Main Street in Walton with her husband Richard (50 [~47], Farmer of 5 Acres) and five children: Ann (23), Eliza (21), George (18), Sophia (17), and Richard (12).[5]
In 1871 Lucy Higdon (age 64 [~60]) lived in Walton with her husband Richard (65 [~57], Farmer), son George (28, Stoker), sister-in-law Ann Edmonds (67), and nephew Arthur Perry (14, Agricultural Labourer).[6]
Lucy's husband passed away in 1877: "28 February [1878]. The Will of Richard Higdon late of Walton in the County of Somerset Cattle Dealer who died 12 February 1877 at Walton was proved at Taunton by Lucy Higdon of Walton Widow the Relict the sole Executrix. Personal Estate under £200."[7]
In 1881 Lucy Higdon (age 60 [~70], Farmer of 12 Acres) lived at Main Street in Walton with her son George (35, Stoke in Shoe Factory), granddaughter Annie Higdon (4, Scholar), grandson Robert Norman (2), two boarders: Frank Perry (21, Stone Mason) and Ann Edmunds (70, Retired), and servant Lavina England (17, General Servant & C).[8]
In 1891 Lucy Higdon (age 80, Living on Her Own Means) lived at South Street in Walton with three of her grandchildren: Herbert Norman (24, Agricultural Labourer), Robert Norman (12, Scholar), and Elizabeth A Higdon (15), as wel as lodger William Hopkins (24, Mason).[9]
Lucy Higdon who passed away on 4 Dec 1891, aged 71 years [should be ~80 years]. Her death was registered in Wells, Somerset [the registration district for Walton] in the last quarter of the year.[10]
"HIGDON Lucy of Walton Somerset widow died 4 December 1891 Administration London 14 March [1892] to Richard Higdon cattle dealer Effects £289 15s. 5d."[11]
