Biography

Eva Roberta Black was born to James Robert Black and Carrie Louise (Elkins) Black on 6 Oct 1899 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.^[1] Her father was a Scottish immigrant who grew up in Massachusetts and Detroit, Michigan. Her mother was from Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Less than a year later she and her parents were living with her paternal grandparents at 77 Maybury Grand, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.^[2]

James, Carrie, and Eva appeared in a Roberts Family Photograph taken of James' grandparents and descendants in 1902 at Belle Island Park, Detroit, Michigan. Eva was seated on her greatgrandfather's lap.

By 1908 the family relocated to Spokane, Washington. On 16 Apr 1910, they lived at 512 Sinto Ave, Spokane, Spokane County, Washington.^[3]

First Marriage & Family

Eva's eldest child, Elva Louise Teachman, was born on 27 Apr 1919 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.^[4]

On 9 Jan 1920 Eva, age 20, was a clerk living with her parents and brother at 151 Christiancy Ave, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.^[5] A month later, on 10 Mar 1920, she and Chester G Teachman married in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.^[6]

By 10 Apr 1930, Eva and Chester and their four children resided at 2332-1/2 Walnut Ave, Everett, Snohomish County, Washington. Chester was a truck driver for the White Star Transfer Co. Eva's mother and brother lived at 2332 Walnut Ave.^[7]

The 1939 Everett directory lists Chester and Eva living at separate addresses.^[8] In the 1940 census, taken on 2 Apr 1940, Eva was the head of household living with her six children, ages 4 to 21 at 2521 State Street, Everett, Snohomish County, Washington. The "M" for married is crossed out and she was employed as a domestic servant.^[9]

Chester married someone else in Mar 1946 in Oregon.^[10]

In 1950 Eva was living with three of her children at 2501 State Street, Everett, Snohomish County, Washington. She was divorced and working as a bookeeper for Pioneer United Dairies.^[11]

Second Marriage

Later that year she was listed as Henry Treptow's wife in the Renton, King County, Washington directory^[12] as well as subsequent directories. Henry was a German immigrant who was previously divorced.

Eva was a clerk at Record Stationary and Office Supply in 1956^[13] and a bookkeeper at Renton News Record in 1959.^[14]

Eva R Treptow died in King County, Washington on 27 May 1997 at age 97.^[15][16] She is buried next to Henry at Valley Cemetery, Sonoma, Sonoma County, California.^[17]

Daughter Elva

Elva's Social Security Application lists her birthday as 27 Apr 1919, born in Chicago, Illinois with parents Chester G Teachman and Eva Black.^[4] This would be prior to Chester and Eva's marriage.
