Biography

Sarah Towns Blaine was born on February 8, 1794 in Albemarle, Virginia, United States.^[1] She was the daughter of Ephraim and Elizabeth Blaine.

Sarah (23) married Smith H Kent (20) (born on April 8, 1797 in Halifax, Virginia) on November 24, 1817 in Halifax, Virginia. The wedding of Sarah "Sallie" Blaine was mentioned in the The Winona Times (Winona, Mississippi) on August 8, 1924 in an article authored by George S. Holmes.^[2]

Nearly one hundred and seven years ago, that is, Dec. 24th, 1817, in the same community back in Old Virginia, three young men led ; their blushing brides to the marriage alter, thereby linking their destinies for weal or woe. They were: Smith H. Kent and Miss Sallie Blaine; John Fisackerly and Miss Elizabeth Holmes; John Holmes and Miss Elizabeth Price.

...They raised large families; to the Kent union was born 5 sons and 5 daughters. The Fisackerly's were blessed with 6 boys and 1 daughter. And of the Holmes set there were 5 sisters and three brothers, two of the sisters dying just at the thresh-hold of young womanhood.

According to her obituary, published in The Baptist (Memphis, Tennessee) on page 3 of the December 18, 1875 edition, Sarah and Smith Kent moved from Virginia to Haywood County, Tennessee in 1832. Subsequently, the family moved to Carroll County (now Montgomery County), Mississippi.^[3]

On June 1, 1850, Sarah, aged 53, was in Southern Division, Carroll, Mississippi.^[4]

On June 1, 1860, Sarah, aged 62, housekeeper, was in Police District 5, Carroll, Mississippi.^[5]

On June 1, 1870, Sarah, aged 73, keeping house, was in Township 19 Range 6, Carroll, Mississippi.^[6]

Sarah died on September 15, 1875 in Montgomery, Mississippi, United States, aged 81. She was buried in Hays Creek Cemetery in Winona, Montgomery County, Mississippi.^[7]
