The first known family members Mats and his son Bengt Matsson were certainly important men, because they are both titled dominus in a letter issued by King Johan Sverkersson and bishop Karl in Lindköping in the year 1219. Both Mats and Bengt were then dead. Mats Boberg owned estate in Sunnebro härad, Finnveden
At the end of the 12th century Mats had to fine rights of the eel-fishing at Skeen, in the parish of Annerstad in Kronoberg county, to king Knut, the son of king Eric the Holy. His grandsons Lars, Peter and Sigtrygg Bengtssöner tried to get the rights to the fishing back. The king had by then sold the rights of the fishing to monastery at Nydala for 3 marker. In 1219 the brothers officially gave up all the claims to the fishing.[1]
The Boberg coat of arms is the oldest known Swedish coat of arms and can be found on a ducument from 1219, sigen by the thre brothers Lars, Peter and Sigtrygg Bengtssöner.[2]
