Thomas was born in 1861 in Gayton, Northamptonshire, England. He was the son of Joseph Boddington, a coal dealer, and Helen. ^{[1] [2]}

On 28 Jun 1880 at Northampton St. Edmund, he married Elizabeth Mabbutt, daughter of John Mabbutt, shoemaker. ^[3]

The couple lived in Australia for a few years in the 1880s, but returned to Northampton. ^[4]

The family emigrated to New Zealand, arriving on 24 Oct 1907 on the Rimutaka, disembarking at Lyttelton. ^{[5] [6]}

He was a boot finisher / shoemaker.

He passed away at Christchurch on 19 Dec 1947 and is buried at Sydenham Cemetery. ^{[7] [8] [9]} His last address was 53 Whiteleigh Ave, Addington. ^[10]

His wife's 1937 death notice gave the daughters' married names: Mrs E. James^[11], Mrs T. Claridge, Mrs J.E. Holt^[12], Mrs E^[13]. and Mrs J. Alexander^[14].

There's a 1931 news clipping of Mr T. E. Boddington giving a radio talk under the Christadelphian Society.
