Biography

Ernst Christel Bolte was born on 18 January 1853 as son of Ernst Ludwig Bolte and Catharina Heitmann. He was baptized on 17 April 1853.^[1]

On 8 January 1879 merchant Christ Bolte arrived in New York as 2nd cabin passenger on board of the ship Donau headed for the Sandwich Islands (later called Hawaii).^[2]

On 20 April 1885 he married Lina Deichmann in Hawaii.^[3] Back then, he was head bookkeeper of the firm of H. Hackfeld & Co.^[4]

On 2 October 1897 him and his wife arrived in Honulu on board of the City of Peking from San Francisco.^[5]

He passed away in 1919.^[6][7]

Research Notes

There are some conflicting sources regarding his year of birth.

The family book for Bremen and Vegesack has birth year of 1853 based on civil records and official pedigrees derived from them ("Stata, 11235/Civ.Reg.Nr. 106").^[8] FamilySearch has a collection of civil records from Bremen, that also contain his birth in 1853^[1] and are probably identical to the sources used for the family book.

The 1900 census also states "January 1853".^[9] The census from May 1910 has him aged 57, which also implies 1853.^[10]

The gravestone states his birth year as 1854.^[6] Same goes for the family book about Rothenburg an der Wümme, where his wife was from.^[11] The death record has 18 January 1919 (sic!) as birth date and the age as 65 (calculated year of birth would be 1854).
