Biography

Hunter Bolton is an Anzac who served in World War One.

Moore Hunter Bolton was born on 25th August 1891 at Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. Hunter, as he was known, was the younger son of William Bolton and Jane Gillies.[1]

He was commissioned into the Australian Imperial Force on 13th October 1914, as a Lieutenant in the 8th Australian Infantry Battalion. He returned to Australia 29th July 1915.[2]

Hunter married Esmeralda Esdaile in 1916 in Victoria.[3]

Hunter served in the AIF as a staff member in charge of Itialian Reservists No.4 Draft. He embarked on 2nd November 1918 at Sydney aboard HMAT Medic A7.[4] The ship returned to Australia when hostilities ceased on the 11th Novemer 1918.

4th Cavalry Division Signals

He was re-called to duty in the Australian Army during the Second World War on 9th August 1941, being posted as a Lieutenant in the 4th Cavalry Division Signals.[5] He was discharged on 28th October 1943.

He passed away in 1963 in Victoria.[6]

Bolton, Ballarat, to Essie, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Esdaile, "Trevallyn," Essendon. Present address, 51 Barkly Place, Bendigo.[7] BOLTON—ESDAILE. The marriage of Lieutenant M. Hunter Bolton, 8th Battalion, A.I.F., son of Lieut.-Colonel Bolton, and Miss Essie Esdaile, only daughter of Mr A. J. Esdaile, "Trevallyn," Essendon, was celebrated at Scot's Church, Collins street, on November 21. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr Marshall. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked girlish and pretty in a conventional bridal robe. She was attended by Miss May Bolton, sister of the bridegroom. The brideroom -was supported by brother officers. The reception was held at the Café Australia, Collins street, where the bride and bridegroom received hearty congratulations.
