Henry emigrated to America with his family in March 1889 and they settled in Muskegon. He moved to Ferrysburg when he was older and married at the age of twenty in 1898.
Henry and Kate moved to Norton Township and purchased parcels of land in Sections 28 and 29 which they farmed. They had thirteen children - five sons and eight daughters. In the early 1930s they purchased another parcel of land in Section 34 of Fruitport Township. After Kate died, Henry was remarried to Grace VanderKooi in 1939. He retired from farming in 1941.
In the late 1940s Henry and Grace bought a house in Muskegon Heights at 1717 Seventh Street and moved there. They were members of the Berean Reformed Church in Muskegon.
Henry was survived by his wife, Grace; all thirteen of his children; twenty eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
