William Thomas Bontoft was born in 1893. He is the son of John Bontoft and Margaret Gray.
Private William Thomas Bontoft enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) on the 18 February 1916. His Next of Kin was listed as his brother, F C Bontoft co of Post Office, Queenton Charters Towers, Queensland. He served with the 9th Battalion, 20th Reinforcement and this unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A46 Clan Mcgillivray on the 7th of September 1916. He continued to serve with the 9th Battalion and returned to Australia on the 13th of March 1918.William Thomas Bontoft is believed to have died in in 1979, and was laid to rest at the Mount Thompson Memorial Gardens and Crematorium, Holland Park West, Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia. But as yet no gravestone photograph has been found to prove this.
