Biography

The Right Honourable Sir William Bovill PC (1814-1873) was the son of Benjamin Bovill (c. 1775-17 Jan 1864) and his wife Ann née Stevens, (both of whom are buried in Saint Mary Church Cemetery, Merton, London.)

He was was an English lawyer, politician and judge.

He married Maria Bolton, eldest daughter of John Henry Bolton of Lee Park, Blackheath on the 20th of August 1844 at Lee Kent

He was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Guildford on the 28th of March 1857.

He was knighted in 1866. (Press cutting - London Daily News London, Wednesday Aug. 1 - OSBORNE, JULY 26.-The Queen was this day pleased to confer the honour of knighthood upon William Bovill, Esq., M.P., Q.C., her Majesty's Solicitor-General.

In May 1867 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.

He served as Chief Justice of the Common Pleas between 1866 and his death aged 59 on the 1st of November 1873 at Kingston upon Thames, London.
