Son of Eli David Bowers and Lillie Belle Weddle.

Mr. Sherman Philip Bowers, 73, one of Frederick's best known attorneys, died at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Bowers had been a practicing attorney in this city for 45 years. He was elected State's Attorney for the county in 1934 and had also served as a trial magistrate.
He graduated from Walkersville High School in 1909. Mr. Bowers was an active Democrat.
In 1912, while working for the government in Washington, DC, he entered the National Law University and completed the full course by studying at night. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in law in 1915. He was admitted to the bars in Washington, DC and Maryland in 1915, and was admitted to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1920.
He began practicing law in Washington, DC, but moved his office to this city in 1916.
He was a veteran of World War I, served in France, and was discharged in 1915.
In 1924, he began to serve a 3-year term as one of three justices of the peace and police judge for Frederick city and county by appointment of the Governor.
He was a member of the Methodist Protestant church of Lewistown.
