In 1851 he was with his parents and 2 siblings in Bilston, Staffordshire. His father was a coal miner. ^[3]

In 1861 William (age 18) was living with his parents in Bilston. He was an iron shingler. ^[4]

He married Sarah Taylor on 14 December 1862 in Walsall, Staffordshire. ^[5]

In 1881 William, an iron worker, was living in Catherine Street, Warrington with his wife and 8 children. ^[6]

In 1891 and 1901, William was living in Bewsey Road, Warrington with his wife and children. He was an iron roller. ^{[7] [2]}
