Joseph was born in 1832 in Gransha, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland, the son of Robert Brennan and Sarah Auld. He was baptised on 04-Apr-1832 in 1st Islandmagee Presbyterian Church.[1]
He was lost at sea in 1859, aged 26 years and is commemorated on the gravestone at the Brennan family plot in St John's Church of Ireland Graveyard, Islandmagee.[2]

Did Joseph get married just before he died? There is a Joseph Brennan, son of Robert Brennan, sailor, marrying a Nancy Brennan in Sinclair Seaman's Presbyterian Church, Belfast on 22-Sep-1859.[3]

Erected by Sarah Brennan in memory of her husband Robert Brennan lost on Tory-Island with the schooner "Isabella" on the 18th Octr. 1851 aged 53 years. Also his son Robert killed on board the schooner "Ocean Child" 28th April 1849 aged 20 years. Also his son William died on the 2nd April 1856 aged 28 years. Also his son Joseph who was lost at sea 4th Decr. 1859 aged 26 years. Also the above named Sarah Brennan who died on the 8th Decr. 1874 aged 74 years. Interred at the Cemetery, Maryport.
