Obituary
There passed away at her residence, at West End, Brisbane on Tuesday last, an old resident of Rockhampton in the person of Mrs. J. E. Kellaway at the age of sixty-eight years, after a short illness. When a child, she migrated from Ireland with her parents, Mr and Mrs Brennan and other members of the family, who came out in the Beejapore, landing at Rockhampton in 1863. A few months later the Brennan family went out to Arcadia Downs on the Dawson River. There Mr. Brennan died. After four years during which they experienced the vicissitudes, of pioneering families and trouble with the blacks, Mrs. Brennan and family returned to Rockhampton, where a few years afterwards, Miss Brennan, the subject of this sketch, was married to Mr. John England Kellaway, who was carrying on business at various places along the Central Railway, including Emerald, where be conducted an hotel and aerated water business, as well as a saddlery business, Messrs. Kellaway and Lee, commanding a large share of the western trade. Subsequently Mr. Kellaway disposed of his interests in the west and came to Rockhampton, where he acquired the aerated water works in Denison Street from Mr. Whitehouse. These works were continued by him under the title of Messrs. Kellaway and Co. until his death, four years later and thereafter by Mrs. Kellaway herself for fifteen years, when she disposed of her interests to Messrs. Edward and Murphy and left to reside in Brisbane. The only surviving members of the Brennan family are Mrs. McCormack, mother of the Minister for Lands (the Hon. W. McCormack) and Mr. John Brennan, West Street, Rockhampton. Mrs. Kellaway is also survived by (three daughters, Mrs. S. Hunting and Misses N. and S. Kellaway (Brisbane)— and three sons— Messrs. H. Kellaway (Brisbane), R. B. Kellaway (BIair Athol) and T. E. Kellaway (Rockhampton).[5]
